At the Tannery & Hairbenders, we want to help you achieve exceptional color and keep your tan longer. These are just a few of the reasons it's so important to use a lotion when you tan:

Protect your vital skin cells.
Vital skin cells that are associated with the immune system get destroyed when the skin is exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods of time. Damaging these cells increases your odds of developing skin cancer. Tanning lotions are specially formulated to help you acquire a superb tan while protecting you against the adverse effects of the sun.

Keep your skin moisturized.
Indoor tanning and UV exposure can be dehydrating to the skin. Designer Skin tanning lotions will help to replenish the moisture lost during tanning. Healthy, moist skin will hold the tan longer, and you will able to achieve a darker, deeper tan by building upon the existing foundation. Dry skin on the other hand tends to flake, peeling away layers of tan with it. Tanning lotions keep your skin constantly moisturized, which is essential during the tanning process.

Give your skin the nutrition it needs.
Designer Skin tanning lotions contain a host of vital ingredients including vitamins, minerals, natural oils, anti-oxidants, Liposomial Tyrosine complexes, Copper, Ribroflavin, L-Tyrosine, natural botanical extracts, and aloe vera; all of which help boost your tanning efforts.

Magnify your tan
Designer Skin tanning lotions offer a refractive prism of natural oils including sunflower oil and hemp seed oil as well as aroma therapy essential oils and aloe-vera gel. The refractive prism causes a magnification of the ultraviolet light that reaches your skin, helping to intensify your tan. Tanning lotions also help the pores to open up and offer you enhanced light absorption by amplifying your UV exposure.

Tanning Lotion FAQ

HOW ARE DESIGNER SKIN TANNING LOTIONS BETTER THAN WHAT I CAN PURCHASE AT A DRUGSTORE?
Over-the-counter tanning lotions do not contain the necessary ingredients to maximize your tanning results. Moreover, they do not effectively replenish the moisture lost during the tanning process. Designer Skin lotions are bio-engineered specifically for indoor tanning.

CAN I USE DESIGNER SKIN TANNING LOTION OUTDOORS?
It is not recommended to use Designer Skin lotion outdoors simply because they do not contain an SPF. Indoor tanning is a controlled environment unlike outdoor exposure. We highly recommend using sun protection when tanning outdoors.

CAN I USE OUTDOOR TANNING LOTION OR BABY OIL IN THE BED?
Over-the-counter tanning lotions are prohibited in the salon due to the damage they cause our tanning beds. In addition to giving inferior tanning results, outdoor tanning lotions contain mineral oils that actually damage the acrylics.

ABOUT OUR TANNING LOTIONS

Tanning Bronzers

Designer Skin Bronzers provide bronze gratification from immediate cosmetic bronzers such as caramel and walnut extract as well as from DHA sunless tanning agents. For a few hours after tanning these agents continue to oxidize with the natural proteins in your skin giving you deeper, darker results.

Unlike Designer Skin products, there are some bronzers in the marketplace that contain too high a percentage of DHA, or even contain low quality bronzing agents that produce unnatural and unattractive tanning results.

Designer Skin bronzers are low-maintenance, meaning they utilize the purest quality of DHA in conjunction with the perfect amount of bronzing agents to enhance the natural level of tan. Designer Skin bronzers will not stain, leave your skin streaked, or turn your skin an unnatural, orange color. You will have an even, deeper natural tan.

Hemp Tanning Lotions

Hemp Seed Oil is a humectant that provides powerful hydration by pulling moisture from the air to the surface of the skin. When hemp oil is combined with the other ingredients in Designer Skin's tanning lotions such as copper and Vitamin E it forms a strong chemical bond. Since hemp oil has such a high fatty acid content, it helps to seal in moisture thus minimizing the damaging and drying effects of tanning. Additionally, the antioxidant properties of vitamin E react with hemp oil to prevent lines and wrinkles in the skin, which is one of the long-term side effects of constant tanning.

It is often recommended that Designer Skin hemp tanning lotion be applied up to an hour before entering the tanning bed or booth in order to be absorbed more readily into the skin prior to the tanning session.

Tingle Tanning Lotions

Designer Skin tanning lotions that contain tingle also contain enhanced levels of botanical oils and natural vitamins that help stimulate the circulation of the skin by drawing the blood towards the skin's surface. The melatonin that is present in the blood gives the tanning process a much-needed boost by helping you achieve your tanning plateau.

When using a Designer Skin tingle tanning lotion, it is best to begin with lower levels and then gradually increase the level in incremental doses so that your body can adapt to the stimulation comfortably with no adverse effect.
